DIRK SEIFERT, PHD

INTEGRATED SUBSURFACE MASTER

Dirk is a multi‑disciplinary subsurface leader with nearly 30 years of experience spanning reservoir characterization, integrated reservoir development, reservoir management, and technical discipline leadership. Throughout his career, he has consistently led dynamic subsurface organizations to deliver step‑changes in reservoir understanding - improving project ranking, strengthening forecasts, and enabling higher‑quality development decisions. His effectiveness as an advisor and agent of change stems from a rare combination of deep technical expertise, mastery of subsurface workflows and corporate processes, strong influencing skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with all audiences.

Dirk began his career with ARCO and ConocoPhillips before spending 19 years with Shell International. Most recently, he served as Shell's Chief Production Geologist for the Global Deepwater organization and as LTRO Manager, where he organized and led more than 30 integrated subsurface workshops across the US Gulf of America. These efforts identified several major project opportunities, strengthened drilling funnels, and materially improved the business plan. His accomplishments include establishing the LTRO program and team, leading and ranking over 30 projects, identifying ~70 Tier‑1 well opportunities, and generating well over $2 billion in value. His work also influenced significant changes to subsurface workflows and Ways of Working. In parallel, he provided critical insights to senior leadership as a member of both the Global Deepwater and the Global Geology Leadership Teams.

As Shell’s seniormost geology assurance authority (TA1), Dirk has intervened in multiple major projects to ensure development plans were realistic, robust, and grounded in integrated technical understanding. He also led the geology components of three major organizational restructures, guiding a technical community of up to 100 geologists through change while minimizing disruption to people and performance.

Dirk holds a BSc in Geology from the Technical University of Berlin, an MSc in Geology & Geophysics from the University of Oklahoma, and a PhD in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot‑Watt University.
